LOL@ News Corp. thinking 50-Cent is worth 300 million. He might have been a few years ago, but i doubt that’s the case today.
This deal is also very ironic. if it goes through, 50 and his arch nemesis Bill O’Reilly will be under the same corporate umbrella, which is News Corp. So now the question is, will News Corp. allow O’Reilly and FOX News to continue bad mouthing 50? A move that could ultimately affect their bottom line and bring into question their credibility as a conservative News Network. O’Reilly Lost.
i really think fif is indeed worth that his album sold more than american gangster (jay z) and they were both terrible albums( curtis was better my opinion) but he still generates interest as an artist an with thisis50.com and with counting g unit records to myspace records his roster is far more succeseful than a lot of others(minus spider loc hot rod etc). He is arguably the biggest name in hip hop a controversial figure whos in the news every day and who can still make hits when solo albums are concerned. Can you name an hip hop album besides graduation that sold higher than curtis in this drought. Neyay keep up the good work.
Lol at oreilly but if fif thinks he cant control jimmy iovine this will be a challenge. Who owns who? Giving corporations full control over your brand is inevitable now but risky.
Hip-hop has moved on from 50. The genre is soooo much different from when he first dropped GRODT. I think he is overvalued at $300 million.
He does not have the influence he once had. In hip-hop terms, he is too old for the younger generation of fans, and he is too immature for the older crowd.
Plus, why the hell would anyone want to get into the record business at this stage? It’s pointless. Itunes is the record company of the future. Record labels should have been concerned with creating new avenues for distribution, instead of letting Apple get between them and consumers. It’s a wrap now. Artists and consumers can bypass record labels now.
Whatever the case, good for 50 getting News Corp. to cough up $300 million, but i dont think he is worth it as a brand. These suits dont know what’s hot in hip-hop. And they prolly gave him $300 mill to one-up jay-Z. The article said half of the payment will be in News Corp stock.
LOL@ 50-cent indirectly owning Bill O’relly. Pure comedy!
And lets not forget that 50-cent released like 6 damn singles and had a marketing stunt with kanye to sell what he did with “Crutis.”
And American gangster was faaar from a whack album. I think it’s up there with blueprint of one of Jay’s best.
$300M? Get rich or die trying? He was a man of his word. AG was a very good album IMO, if you listen to lyrics and flow.
It’s pointless. Itunes is the record company of the future. Record labels should have been concerned with creating new avenues for distribution, instead of letting Apple get between them and consumersAccording to ThisIs50.com, the deal would begin effective 2009, at which point News Corp would take a large stake in every aspect of 50 Cent’s business: music, concerts, books, and G-Unit Records. Its not really about record deals its about OWNING (lol) 50 cent as a brand. IMO i think hes worth it.
They said a big part of this deal is helping to get Myspace Records off the ground.
If 50’s worth 300 milly, then Jay-Z got punked by Live Nation. Jay-Z has way more longevity than 50. he has been in the game for 12 years, and has a really loyal fanbase. I can see him still having influence 10years in the future. 50-cent? not so much.
You know how long 10years is in hip-hop terms? thats like a lifetime. Think about how different the musical landscape was 10years ago. That was the bling/shiney suit era. Now we are on something completely different.
How many artists from that period are still relevant? I cant knock 50-cent for pimping news corp., but i personally would not have paid that much for him. I would have gotten Kayne or something. Kanye outsold 50-cent, has broader appeal, and I can see him having longevity by reinventing himself.
Jay Peso, Jay aint get punked by Live Nation, it’s all in negotiation and lets be real about the terms of this contract, which aren’t going to be exposed. Jay is an easy recoup on the 150, and regardless, if he can earn his start up bread regardless of how his records do, his label does, or his tours, which all will be successful…it’s more money in the long run. I think that the publishing and venture funding will be the main factor. See, If I sell 2 records and you want me to sell 10, but you paying for me to start Cogswell Cogs and I do that.. I’ll win on the fact I gave you licensing to help me sell my 10 records and I’m giving you most of that, you win because you gave me the Cogswell dough so I’ll shut the fuck up about the slow recouping of the 10 records.
Thats just one side of the deal, we gotta get a check for tours, which Live Nation is killing right now…and the marketing…Im not worried about selling when Im sitting next to Madonna and U2 in the board room.
Myspace is on the back end of technology, Microsoft is on the front end, Google paid for access to myspace for ad revenue, so it’s not like they can help shift the industry. Microsoft and Facebook will soon help shape the music industry, technology and social networking will win, and gossip, friend ad’s , phishing and all then crickets on myspace will keep 50 in the same boat In my opinion. News Corp will build a buzz by hanging 50, Orielly is good pub for the rebels …youngsters want to rebel against O’reilly, which is 50’s fuel.
Jay is targeting a more sophisticated audience and look at his biz mates, they over there set. Myspace records is a scary move to make, unless you dont care about selling records, i.e. 50 Cent.
Plus, to get that many shares in News Corps (How Many?) LOL
Thats the thing, we all know if it’s too good, he is now tied up contractually, if it’s all bad, then he getting the hell out.
News Corp has never supported Hip Hop, Look at Rawkus Records, Rupert’s son funded that and later they all pointed and said…”I told you so, now why you start that backpack bullshit” He backed out quietly.
I like this blog but wow you sure write to yourself a lot before anyone even comments. A little strange.
wow…$300 Million. You’ve GOT to be kidding…
allhiphop said sha money management and violator confirmed it aint true
either way 50 is arguably the biggest name in rap.
LOL, fair enough. I know News Corp. would not pay no 300 milly for fiddy
